Acting Through History Program

Acting Through History is a unique acting class that creatively merges the art of acting with history. The student-artist is immersed into the world of a specific period in time using a combination of historical literature, archival footage and acting techniques. Student interaction, writing, research and discussion culminate into live presentations.

Acting Through History: Elizabethan Period

A unique acting class that merges the art of acting with history and literature. Offered in two formats: Self—paced and Live Online.

The Spanish Armada is a significant event in 16th-century history marked by controversy, mayhem, and revival. At the heart, stands Queen Elizabeth I as she gives her rallying speech to the troops at Tilbury.  Immerse oneself in the rich text that makes it a perfect backdrop for any student-actor to learn, prepare, and practice the craft of acting.

​Students will: 

  • Learn to explore scripted material for presentation. 

  • Explore the Elizabethan political, religious, and social climate as it relates to war, music, art, movement, and language between 1500s-and 1600s.

  • Research and source details of the Spanish Armada.

  • Communicate the Given Circumstances of a scripted speech and monologue.

  • Present scripted material for performance on camera.

  • Practice the application of various acting techniques.

  • Utilize technology to present work and performances.

  • Learn the principles of text analysis and text technique.
